How do I use or troubleshoot my Fetch remote?
Take me to
For support with your Fetch remote, we recommend the Fetch Remote Instructions. Their guide includes information on pairing, set up, controlling the TV, soundbars, and the TV brands and codes to link your TV to the remote.
How do I troubleshoot issues with my remote?
To check your remote is working, press any button on the remote. The light on the left-hand side of your Fetch box should flash blue. If it doesn't, your remote isn’t communicating with the box.
To reset and re-pair the remote:
- Point your remote at your Fetch box. Press and hold the red button and left arrow on the remote until the light on the remote flashes red and green
- You'll see a pairing prompt on screen and a confirmation once the remote is paired. Once paired, the light at the top of the remote will flash green on each button press.
Next, check your connection type. Your remote may have defaulted to an infrared connection, rather than Bluetooth. With Bluetooth, you do not need to point the remote directly towards your Fetch box.
Bluetooth also allows you to use voice control and other TV functions.
Check your remote is using Bluetooth
You can check if your remote is using a Bluetooth connection by pressing any button on the remote. The light at the top of the remote should flash green on each button press. In Infrared mode, the light will flash red on each button press.
To change your connection type to Bluetooth, follow the previous steps to reset and re-pair the remote.
To check your Bluetooth paired remote has the best settings and is on the latest software:
- Press Menu
- Select Settings
- Select Remote Control from the options on the screen
- Scroll down to Software Update and select Check.
Still not working?
If your remote is still not working, you may need to reset it to factory settings:
- On the remote, hold down the Back and Exit buttons simultaneously for three seconds. The TV button on the remote will flash twice to indicate the remote has entered programming mode
- Press the 9 button, then press the 7 button twice. If you press any other button by accident, you’ll need to follow these steps again.
The TV button will flash four times to show the remote is reset.
Frequently asked questions
Have your Parental PIN ready as you may need it to change your settings. If you can't find your PIN, you can reset it in the My Telstra app. Refer to I've forgotten my Parental PIN, how can I reset it?
Follow these steps so your Fetch remote can control your Fetch box and TV at the same time. With the Fetch box and TV on:
- Press Menu on your Fetch remote
- On the Fetch main menu, choose Settings and select Audio & Visual
- Go to Advanced, then TV Control and select the check box.
If you still experience issues, your TV may not be compatible with TV control.
To turn off TV control, follow the previous steps and deselect the check box.
Once you have turned on TV control, you can turn your TV on or off using the Fetch remote:
- Press 123…on the remote. This will light up the TV (power) button
- Press the power button. If there is no light when you press it, you won't be able to turn on or off your TV.
If you can't find any universal remote codes for your model of TV in the Fetch Remote Instructions, you may have a newer or less well-known brand of TV that doesn’t have a code.
If this doesn't help, you could consider trying a universal remote that can be programmed to control multiple devices in your home, including your Fetch box.
Good to know: Fetch won't be able to support issues you have with a non-Fetch remote.
If you have Remote 1 or 2, you use the numbers on the remote.
If you have Remote 3, 4, or 5 you press the 123... button to illuminate the numbers. You need to press the button for each number while it is lit.
Press and hold the voice button on the remote until you see "I'm Listening" on screen. Keep holding the voice button and say your command. The remote can listen for up to 15 seconds while you hold the voice button.
Good to know: Your box needs to be powered on and not on standby to use voice commands through the remote.
You can search across most content on Fetch by voice, including Free-to-Air and Subscription TV programs, the Movie and TV Stores, TV Apps, and to launch apps like Netflix and Prime Video.
To search, press and hold the voice button on your remote and say the name of the show or movie you're looking for.
Make sure to speak clearly into the top of the remote, where the microphone is located. You'll see a prompt on screen "I'm Listening" along with your spoken phrase.
If there are multiple matches, these will open in a Search.
Good to know: If the remote isn't paired yet, you'll see a pairing prompt followed by an option to set up the universal remote. Once the remote is paired, you can press and hold the voice button for voice control and voice search.
Here are some examples of things you can search for with your paired Fetch Voice Remote.
- Search by title, such as:

On Fetch Mighty or Mini 4K, Netflix doesn't support voice search for Netflix exclusive content. To search this content you can use the text entry search or search by going into Netflix.
