Founded in 2010, NTEX began as a civil construction and demolition business in Darwin, Northern Territory. Known for tackling challenging projects, NTEX grew into a trusted provider of infrastructure services. However, by 2019, the company’s founder sought to balance profitability with environmental stewardship and community care. This vision sparked a transformation, redefining demolition practices in the Northern Territory through sustainability and innovation.
In 2019, NTEX adopted advanced European technology to crush concrete and recover resources, enabling the diversion of over 166,000 tonnes of waste from landfills since July 2020. This process created reusable materials that delivered significant cost savings for clients, such as the Northern Territory Government, which avoided importing quarried resources by reusing NTEX’s recycled concrete aggregate.
Furthering its commitment to sustainability, NTEX invested over $6 million in Australian first state-of-the-art equipment, enabling the business to implement advanced recycling technologies. The company also tracks waste origins and volumes, fostering a circular economy where waste is repurposed into valuable products.
NTEX’s sustainability efforts go beyond environmental impact to include community care. By partnering with organisations like Grassroots Action Palmerston, NTEX provides employment pathways for Indigenous youth, empowering individuals to build meaningful careers.
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do,” says Business Development Manager and co-founder Eileen Breen. “It’s not just about the environment – it’s about creating opportunities for people and turning waste into resources.”
As the winner of the Telstra Best of Business Awards Northern Territory Promoting Sustainability Award, NTEX has solidified its leadership in sustainable practices.
Winning the Telstra Promoting Sustainability Award was an incredible honour. It gave us a platform to share our story, inspire others, and show how sustainability can transform even the most destructive industries.
NTEX is expanding operations into remote communities, educating residents about circular economies and landfill management while creating local opportunities. Future plans include tackling marine waste, decommissioning vessels and expanding green waste, metals and tyre recycling efforts.
NTEX was recognised as the Northern Territory Promoting Sustainability Winner at the Telstra Best of Business Awards.
