Founded in 2016 by childhood friends Rafael Niesten and Jon Stul, the company emerged from shared frustration with the disjointed maintenance process in property management. Determined to solve complex industry problems, they set out to create smarter, more efficient systems.
The idea began on Boxing Day in the back room of an Officeworks store—the only place open for brainstorming. From this humble start, Rafael and Jon rapidly grew their business through acquisitions and innovation. Today, Proptech Labs boasts a team of 140 staff, leveraging data and AI to revolutionise property management while expanding both locally and globally.
Winning the Telstra Best of Business Awards National Outstanding Growth Award was a pivotal moment for the company. Known for their relentless focus on forward momentum, preparing the awards application encouraged Rafael and Jon to reflect on their achievements.
“Entrepreneurship can be lonely,” Rafael admits. “You’re always chasing the next milestone and forget to celebrate the wins. This process made us realise how much we’ve accomplished through sheer sweat and tears.”
The awards brought national recognition and cemented Proptech Labs’ reputation as a leader in property technology. “The credibility from an external source like this is invaluable,” Rafael explains. “It opens doors, inspires conversations, and pushes us to the next level.”
Looking ahead, Proptech Labs has ambitious plans to expand its use of AI, cross-sell products, and drive acquisitions locally and globally. The company is also dedicated to inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs, showcasing what can be achieved through perseverance and vision.
