Both Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max have Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in, plus intelligent voice match technology. Here are the main differences:

The Nest Hub (2nd gen) has a 7-inch touchscreen and full range speakers.
The Nest Hub Max has the bigger 10-inch touchscreen and includes a 6.5 megapixel camera, with a wide-field view and face-matching technology. Nest Hub Max also has a stereo speaker system with woofers and tweeters.

It depends on what kind of hands-free help you want.

For example if you want to be able to watch shows, listen to your playlist and get updates while you're busy in the kitchen, then a Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max could be ideal to start your smart home.

You do not need to have a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max. However, having a Nest Hub display located centrally in your home will allow you to see the feed from your Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell without reaching for your mobile phone.

Yes! You'll just need to download the Google Home app for iOS and make sure that both the Nest and Apple devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
