    How do I activate a new post-paid service on eSIM?

    If you've purchased a new post-paid service, in most cases you can activate an eSIM on a compatible device in minutes.

    Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi, then if you’re ordering:

    • Online - Scan the QR code when your order is complete, or follow the prompts in the My Telstra app on your eSIM-compatible device
    • In store - Follow the steps given by our agent to install your eSIM through a notification on your phone or by scanning a provided QR code
    • In the My Telstra app - Your eSIM will be ready for download once your order is confirmed. Follow the prompts to download.
    • Over the phone - once the agent completes your order, you’ll be asked to download the My Telstra app. Go to Services, and follow the prompts to download and activate your eSIM.
       

    Carrier activation is currently only available in stores. If you haven’t set up your device in-store, please go to Settings, then Set Up Mobile and follow the prompts. The 6-digit confirmation code you’ll need was sent to your email address.

    If you purchased a device with your service, wait for your device to be delivered. Once it arrives, turn it on and download the My Telstra app. Go to Services, and follow the prompts to download and activate your eSIM.
     

    Important

    eSIM is not yet available for customers who wish to keep their number when switching from another provider.

    How do I activate a new Pre-Paid service on eSIM?

    If you’ve got a Pre-Paid service and you purchased an eSIM, in most cases you can activate an eSIM on a compatible device in minutes using the following steps:

    1. Check if your device is listed under compatible devices or you can check with your device manufacturer
    2. In the My Telstra app, go to Services and select Buy a Pre-Paid plan on eSIM. Then follow the prompts to purchase a service and set up your eSIM.
       
    Important

    If the Buy a Pre-Paid plan on eSIM option is not shown, it’s likely your device is not eSIM compatible.

    How do I activate a new eSIM service if I bought a device with a plan?

    • If you purchased a device with a Pre-Paid or post-paid plan and selected eSIM, follow these steps to activate it:
      1. Turn on your new device
      2. Download the My Telstra app and sign in with your Telstra ID
      3. Go to Services and select your new service number
      4. Follow the prompts to download  and activate your new eSIM.
         
    • If you have an existing iPhone or iPad you can transfer the eSIM from the old device to the new one directly. Ensure you have both devices, then:
      1. Go to Settings
      2. Mobile
      3. Add eSIM
      4. Transfer from Nearby iPhone/iPad.
      5. Follow the prompts to complete.

    If you’re unable to complete the transfer between your devices using these steps, go to the My Telstra app to activate your eSIM. to activate your eSIM.

    I currently have a physical SIM. How do I switch and activate an eSIM?

    • If you have an existing Telstra physical SIM, switching to eSIM is easy. Follow the same steps for post-paid or Pre-Paid services.
      1. When connected to Wi-Fi, open the My Telstra app on the device you’re moving the service to
      2. Go to Services, select the relevant service, then Set up or manage eSIM to Transfer or restore eSIM.
         
    • If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can switch your physical SIM to an eSIM:
      1. Go to Settings
      2. Under Mobile, select your service
      3. Convert to eSIM, follow the prompts to complete eSIM activation.

    What if I completed my purchase, but my eSIM isn’t available to download?

    If your eSIM was delivered by carrier activation, it may be waiting in your device settings. Check under Settings for a link to Set Up Mobile. The 6-digit confirmation code you’ll need was sent to your email address.

    For other eSIMs, go to Set up or manage eSIM in the My Telstra app and follow the prompts to Transfer or restore eSIM.
