Did you know that you can kickstart your career journey at Telstra simultaneously with your degree? It’s not just the graduate program that opens doors to incredible opportunities for success.
I started as an Intern for Telstra in 2019 in Global Business Services while studying for a Bachelor of Communications and Media (Sports Media). Throughout the internship, I underwent seven rotations, experiencing working life across multiple teams. This was an incredibly enriching experience for me.
In 2022, I was offered a graduate position in Telstra's Marketing team, scheduled to commence in 2023 after my graduation. Currently, I am transitioning from the Telstra Graduate program to a permanent full-time position in Marketing.
Reflecting on my experience so far, it’s evident that Telstra’s commitment to employee development and empowerment has played a crucial role in my journey. I have so much to share about these experiences.
The early careers team here gave me the space to engage in conversations with various teams across the business, enhancing my understanding of my role and guiding my broader career journey.
Throughout my time at Telstra, I have seized opportunities to contribute on diverse projects, collaborating with several teams to gain valuable experience and develop my skills.
Telstra not only promotes internal mobility but provides resources for employees to explore different roles and departments within the organisation. As a result, I’ve been able to make informed career choices and pursue opportunities that align with my interests and skills.
Additionally, I have participated in several training programs and networking events, which have further contributed to my professional growth. Access to online learning modules allow me to continually refine my skills.
All of these programs and initiatives go a long way to supporting growth and development not only of technical skills but also soft skills that are instrumental to ongoing success.
I find the monthly people development days to be a great resource because it allows us to hear first-hand from our industry’s top professionals about their paths to success.
Considering the opportunities for further education, certification programs and our internal mobility programs, I firmly believe that Telstra’s comprehensive support system is designed to empower employees in steering their career growth.
I feel very supported at Telstra, not only because of the wonderful people who are part of my journey here but also because of the resources I have been able to access.
And what about my passions? Well, I have been given the opportunity to speak about key events in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. I get to not only take on tasks related to my role but I get to work on projects I am passionate about. This company’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion truly sets them apart.
